ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) At the Albuquerque Water Polo Club their philosophy is to coach “the whole athlete”. They believe it is critical to work on developing mental toughness, community, and a recognition of the role of older athletes within the organization.
The sport requires rigorous training as players must constantly tread water, trying to score on either side of a pool. The club currently has 120 athletes with 15 coaches on staff.
Program Director Robbie Bova says that while many programs focus on strengthening the body and the physicality of the sport, AWPC also stresses the importance of mental toughness. AWPC offers mental toughness workshops, events, and team retreats.
The Albuquerque Water Polo Club offers year-round water polo for ages 4 through 18, training all skill levels and in a positive environment that emphasizes leadership and character.
September 27 through the 29 the club will hold the Chile Classic tournament at the West Mesa Aquatic Center where various teams from across the nation will participate in.
